Cres across Krk to Kraljevica
This long and very challenging leg of the journey starts with a short ascent and longer descent across the interior of the Island of Cres to the port in Merago, where you board the ferry for the Island of Krk. Then, a varied section of paved, gravel, and dirt road leads to the charming town of Krk and past the interesting Church of St. Dunat to the settlement of Punat, where you can visit the Stara Torklja Interpretation Center. The central topic is the production of olive oil and its intertwinement with coastal karst.
After discovering Punat, continue on past the olive groves back towards the western side of the island, where the road meanders northward, mostly along the coast, but also features some shorter climbs. The smell of the pine trees gives this leg of the journey a special charm. Be on the lookout for a number of elements of coastal karst that are presented in the Interpretation Center in Punat before crossing the Krk Bridge.
After returning to the mainland, it is time to rest up in the port town of Kraljevica.
