Along the Kolpa River to Stari trg pri Ložu
The sixth leg of the Great Karst Loop is very special, because it runs along the Slovenian-Croatian border all the way to Babno polje. The border is marked by the Kolpa River, which springs from a mighty karst spring in v Gorski Kotar. Almost the entire section is paved road. This leg of the journey kicks off with a more challenging ascent to the village of Čabar, reaching the highest point just below Mt. Kozji vrh.
Cross the border one last time near Babno polje. This area is also known as “Slovenian Siberia”, because the lowest temperature in the country was recorded here at -34.5 °C. The day ends in the village of Stari trg pri Ložu neat the intermittent Lake Cerknica.
